The 12th edition of the lolaHESG (lowlands Health Economic Study Group) conference will be held on September 24-25, 2020 (no longer on May 28-29, 2020, due to the coronavirus outbreak, see below). The conference is open to everyone, especially those that are interested in health economics are warmly invited to attend the event and encouraged to submit an abstract related to ongoing research. As in previous years, much time will be devoted to in-depth discussions of work in progress for the accepted abstracts. The conference will therefore offer an excellent opportunity to get feedback on your research and informally exchange ideas with other health economic researchers.

Professor Stephanie von Hinke will give this year's keynote lecture about the use of genetic information in health economics research to strengthen causal inference in observational research.

This year, the conference is being organized by the Amsterdam University Medical Centers-location VUmc, the Groningen University Medical Center and the University of Groningen.

------- CORONAVIRUS UPDATE (24-06-2020) ------

Despite the COVID-19 situation is improving, the 1.5 m social distance rule makes it hard for face-to-face conferences to happen on location. Therefore, we have decided to adapt lolaHESG2020 in an online way.

We are organizing a program of one-afternoon on September 24th, approximately between 13 and 17. There will be a keynote lecture followed by two blocks of parallel sessions where audience and discussants will discuss all accepted papers.

The website will be updated soon. You will find a link for the free registration for the online conference, so that we have a list of participants for sharing the meeting details. For those who have already registered and paid, you will receive a complete refund as soon as possible.

Together, we can make it a nice and educational event.

We hope to meet you on September 24th,
The LolaHESG 2020 organizing committee

------- CORONAVIRUS UPDATE (28-05-2020) ------

Today (May 28) would have been the first LOLA-HESG day. We regret not seeing you in person in Groningen, but are looking forward to better times.

While we keep some good hope, we foresee that also in September a real meeting will be impossible within the CORONA restrictions. We are working on an alternative that is attractive, guarantees discussions and avoids being too long.

We keep you updated and will announce more news mid June.

The LOLA 2020 organizing team.

------- CORONAVIRUS UPDATE (01-04-2020) ------

Following the latest measures to combat the coronavirus outbreak and given new Dutch government rules to prohibit all meetings until June 1, lolaHESG 2020 has to be postponed.

The new dates for the lolaHESG 2020 are September 24-25, 2020.

We understand that September might become a busy period but we hope that you will nevertheless be able to participate. We selected 50 abstract with a broad range of topics from quality of life research to the econometric analysis of disability policy.

We therefore encourage everyone who is interested in health economics to register for the conference. The early bird registration deadline has been extended until June 30. Please visit the webpage ‘Important dates’ on the lolaHESG 2020 website for new important dates (i.e. registration deadline). Please register here. Should you not be able to attend in September and have already registered, please write an email to and a full refund will be arranged. A full refund will also be offered in case the coronavirus outbreak will still prohibit the conference in September.

Wishing you all the best. We look forward to meeting you in Groningen in September.

Kind regards,
lolaHESG 2020 committee
